A real update:

My grandma sent out this email, and since you all have been helping us with your thoughts and prayers, I think it's only right to share the information with you. Here we go:

"Hi all:

Sorry I didn't get to this sooner; our guests are here from Canada and we are keeping a busy schedule.

Denny's surgery went fine; they were able to receive some of the pressure on his brain and have a permanent shunt in place. They don't know anything yet as to the type of glioma or the prognosis; the pathology report will be in on Monday.

He and Anita will be coming to Houston to stay with Karen and for him to receive treatment at M.D. Anderson -- one of the major hospital that is part of the huge medical complex. Unless they have been able to attract a much higher caliber of physicians to the Tri-Cities, I think the return to Houston is a much better alternative.

Hope you are all well; will send word when I know what they say concerning Denny's possible treatments and chance for a normal recovery. There are three classes of glioma cancer; the first gives a patient 12 months or less; the other two ranges from 3-5 years, but of course the patient is being treated and battling, so I'm not even sure how preferable that will be. Either way, he has a difficult road ahead of him.

When Karen and Anita stepped off the elevator into the waiting room area, Karen's music pastor was sitting there. He simply said: "They sent me instead of flowers." He and his wife have been close friends with Karen for years, so while it was a big surprise, she was very happy to see him. He's a good prayer warrior as well as a great friend.

Take care; love you all very much.

Mom/GMA"
